WRWC ANNOUNCES 2024 QUALIFIER SERIES EVENTS
The Women’s Rodeo World Championship (WRWC) recently announced its Qualifying Series Events for the 2024 season. The first event will be held during the 2024 Cowgirl Gathering on May 14-16 in Fort Worth, Texas. The series will have eight dedicated stops to team roping, breakaway roping, and barrel racing. Each event will include a challenger and pro classification. Qualifiers will begin in mid-May 2023 and conclude with its final qualifier in Amarillo, Texas, at the Amarillo All Girl on March 16, 2024.
The $750,000 WRWC is the richest women’s rodeo of all time. The event has paid out $2.25 million to women rodeo athletes since 2020.
Athletes can earn a generic qualification to the 2024 WRWC by participating in Qualifier Series events. The Qualifier Series is a string of events held before the 2024 WRWC where athletes who nominate and place in the top spot in their respected discipline at the qualifier will earn a generic qualification to the 2024 WRWC. Positions earned automatically place the athlete in the Qualifying Round of the WRWC regardless of leaderboard position.
During the 2022 WRWC, Martha Angelone earned a qualifier series position through the 2023 Cowgirl Gathering. Angelone battled through the qualifying round and delivered a ground-breaking performance to win the 2023 WRWC Breakaway roping championship. Angelone became the first breakaway roper to take home the coveted $60,000 payday, who also earned her position through a qualifier series event.
“We are about to cap off a remarkably successful season, and we will continue to build on that momentum in 2024. The first steps are our Qualifier Series Events, where athletes can get on the path that will take them to their ultimate destination, the 2024 WRWC,” said WRWC Commissioner Linsay Rosser-Sumpter. “Through the years, we’ve been fortunate that so many women athletes are interested in pursuing their rodeo dreams by competing on our platform. Earning a WRWC Qualifier Series Generic Qualification is a crucial opportunity for the athlete, and we anticipate strong demand for qualifying for the 2024 event.”
