WOMEN’S RODEO WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP ANNOUNCES NO. 1-SEEDED LEADERBOARD ATHLETES ADVANCING TO THE SHOWDOWN ROUND

The 2022 Women’s Rodeo World Championship (WRWC) recently announced the eight athletes advancing directly to the Showdown Round on May 18.

The May 16-18 event will mark WCRA’s second leg of the 2022 Triple Crown of Rodeo. The WRWC is the largest annual purse for a women’s rodeo event and will payout more than $750,000 in 2022 while crowning World Champions in the Women’s Rodeo disciplines; Team Roping, Breakaway Roping and Barrel Racing. An All-Around Champion will also be crowned.

WRWC is a culmination of a year-long race of women’s rodeo events worldwide. Athletes qualify for the WRWC by earning points and leaderboard positions using the VRQ (Virtual Rodeo Qualifier).

Those athletes that earned an automatic berth to the Women’s Rodeo World Championship Showdown Round are:

Pro Leaderboard:

Team Roping Header: Bev Robbins (Muscle Shoals, Alabama)

Team Roping Heeler: Jessy Remsburg (Leighton, Alabama)

Barrel Racing: London Gorham (Cotulla, Texas)

Breakaway Roping: Josie Conner (Iowa, Louisiana)

Challenger Leaderboard:

Team Roping Header: Sydney Ball (Max Meadows, Virginia)

Team Roping Heeler: Sally Ball (Max Meadows, Virginia)

Barrel Racing: Britta Strain (Davie, Florida)

Breakaway Roping: Rylie Edens (Hillsboro, Texas)

These athletes secured their berths by achieving the No. 1 position on the 2022 WRWC leaderboard, which included nominated competition efforts at events held from October 2021 to April 2022.

On May 18 at the WRWC held at the historic Cowtown Coliseum, these athletes will be joined in the Showdown Round by the top four fastest times from each challenger and pro leaderboard in the Semi-Final Round (May 17).

This year marks the second consecutive WRWC event Josie Conner has secured her automatic berth to the Showdown Round. In 2021, the 18-year-old notched the fastest time in the progressive round with a 2.23-second time to advance to the main event. The Louisiana-native has won over $56,900 in Triple Crown of Rodeo Events.

Launched in 2019, the Triple Crown of Rodeo presented by Lazy E Ranch and Arena is an annual bonus that will pay $1 million to any one athlete, or collection of athletes, who win first place in any three consecutive WCRA Major Rodeos. The 2022 schedule includes four Triple Crown of Rodeo events, beginning with Rodeo Corpus Christi May 11-14, followed immediately by the Women’s Rodeo World Championship in Fort Worth May 16-18. Utah Days of ‘47 Rodeo in Salt Lake City July 20-23 & 25 will be the third stop while the 2022 tour will wrap up with the Cowtown Christmas Championship Rodeo December 14-17.
